The fried tofu – it’s got this amazing, dense, crunchy crust, and the inside is silken tofu – SO GOOD. Really, I am still dreaming of this tofu.

spicy crab
The eponymous dish – a nice fleshy crab cooked up with an incredible amount of minced garlic, green onions, and spicy chilis. Get it medium hot and it will burn your tongue off. Don’t forget the beeeer.

  1. It’s more accurately named “Typhoon Shelter Crab” because they used to make it on cooking boats in the Causeway Bay typhoon shelter, back in the day before they realized it was easier to make a living cooking for landlubbers, not just fishermen.

There’s about 6 different restaurants that do it on the Wanchai/Causeway Bay border, my favorite thing about the one I go to (no I dn’t know which one it is, I can only take you to it) is that at 5am, you get the most random mix of triad heavies, movie/music stars, club kids, old HKers and tourists.

  2. are you from HK or somethin?

  3. Hong Kong, Los Angeles, it’s all sort of the same thing.

  4. oooh ok, yes ive heard this place is good for drunk food. they were setting up some kind of special room for guanxi guests when we were there! triad???

  5. Triad . .. or celebrities. . . or both!

I’m really from LA, I just pretend to be from HK. I did live there for 7 years (1 year as a toddler, 6 years as an adult)
